The Humboldt Sun  reported Monday that CEO Jay Chmelauskas of Western Lithium is in high spirits regarding the development of a lithium mine in Nevada.
The permitting for the mine, the development of a German demonstration plant, and the construction of a Reno battery plant are all slated to be completed in the next few years, and all around the same time. The three businesses will likely work together, giving Chmelauskas reason for optimism.

BLM Signs Record of Decision for Waterton’s Hollister Underground Mine Project

ELKO – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Tuscarora Field Office issued a Record of Decision on the Final Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Waterton Global Mining Company’s (Waterton) Hollister Underground Mine Project.
The Hollister Underground Mine Project is an amendment to the Hollister Development Block Project Plan of Operations. The project is located approximately 47 miles northwest of Elko, 38 miles northeast of Battle Mountain, and 64 miles northeast of Winnemucca in Elko County. Recent Changes in Electric and Gas Rates; Electricity Prices are Down in 2014

A New Year’s decrease in electric rates, plus one proposed for the fall means NV Energy’s commercial customers’ electricity costs will be lower in 2014.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) approved several rate changes for northern Nevada electric customers beginning January 1.
The changes included a reduction in the company’s revenue from electric general rates of approximately $37.1 million. When combined with a quarterly change in rates due to fluctuating fuel costs, it resulted in an overall decrease of 4.24 percent in electric rates for all classes of …

Allied keeps close eye on cash position

Despite record gold and silver production for 2013, Allied Nevada Gold Corp of Reno continues to be plagued by liquidity problems. The company headquartered in South Meadows sold 181,941 ounces of gold and 858,073 ounces of silver last year from its flagship Hycroft mine 54 miles west of Winnemucca, which is 33 and 41 percent more precious metals sold than the previous year, respectively. A revised mine plan for Reno-based Allied Nevada’s Hycroft mine near Winnemucca, Nevada, calls for annual production of 1.1 million gold equivalent ounces during a 19-year operating life.

NEVADA MINING INDUSTRY EXPECTS TO ADD 1,200 JOBS THIS YEAR

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s mining industry is stepping up to Gov. Brian Sandoval’s challenge asking businesses and all economic partners to help create 50,000 jobs over the next three years.
The Nevada Mining Association recently conducted an informal survey of its members and has estimated the industry will add 1,200 jobs this year, both in precious metal and industrial mineral production across the state.
