Looks at investing $1.4B in four local mines

Barrick is looking at sinking $1B into a new “Goldrush” underground mine said to contain 8.6 million ounces of gold. It is located in Lander County near Barrick’s Cortez Hills project.
Barrick also announced “pre-feasibility” plans to add a third production shaft at Turquoise Ridge in Humboldt County, develop an underground mine at Cortez after the pit there closes in 2018, and continue to explore a new “Fourmile” discovery that appears geologically similar but even higher-grade than …

The Downtown Business Association (DBA) has given the downtown area a facelift in order to attract more businesses — and more customers — to the downtown area. And it’s working, said DBA president Jacy Jackson. Several new businesses have started or moved into the area, including the new coffee shop, Cafe 345, owned by Debbie Palmer, Real Deals Winnemucca, owned by Holly Laird, and Essential Oils and More, owned by Katherine Hall.

The Humboldt Sun recently wrote about the plans of Hycroft Mine, a local mining operation that provides approximately 440 jobs to Winnemucca and Humboldt County residents.
In light of a recently held Humboldt Regional Planning Commission meeting, The Humboldt Sun summarized the statements of Hycroft representatives succinctly in the article’s headline, “Hycroft Principals Still Optimistic”.

At a meeting on Tuesday June 24th, NV Energy representatives introduced an economic incentives program that is aimed toward new customers in Nevada.
The goal of the program, according to economic development executive Jeff Brigger, is to attract new and expanding businesses to the area by providing discounts on their power needs.
The discounts will amount to nearly 16% of the total cost for power at the beginning of a five-year commitment, and will decrease slightly each year until the end of the agreement, when normal charges will commence.

The 2014 Futures Forum went off without a hitch. The ten representatives from local businesses each gave a 20 minute presentation on the recent histories and future plans for their respective organizations. Nearly 130 people attended the Forum from across the region and they had some great questions for the presenters. Overall, the day was a success.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and legislative leaders have made their appointments to a new Economic Development Board that will be tasked with coordinating economic development activities statewide.
