A New Year’s decrease in electric rates, plus one proposed for the fall means NV Energy’s commercial customers’ electricity costs will be lower in 2014.

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) approved several rate changes for northern Nevada electric customers beginning January 1.

The changes included a reduction in the company’s revenue from electric general rates of approximately $37.1 million. When combined with a quarterly change in rates due to fluctuating fuel costs, it resulted in an overall decrease of 4.24 percent in electric rates for all classes of customers. The average commercial customer saw a decrease of 7.53 percent.
